Our History

We have been building smart transport solutions with Visser since 1904. What started as a small carriage-making shop in Witmarsum has grown into a modern manufacturing company active in the agricultural and industrial sectors. We look back on our roots with pride and look ahead with just as much ambition.

1933

Son Douwe takes over. He adds car bodies, drives a taxi, keeps bees and imports American car parts.

1965–1977

After Douwe’s death, the accountant takes over the company. In 1977, J. de Boer bought Visser and the next growth phase began.

1904

Gosse Visser opens a carriage-making shop in Witmarsum. He builds and repairs wooden agricultural wagons for farmers in the region.

ca. 1950

The transition to mechanization: Visser focuses entirely on conveyor belts and develops the first mobile hay conveyors, the Jacobs ladders.

1980–2004

New halls, more capacity. The 75th anniversary is being celebrated, and in 2004 Visser will be 100 years old. Now a leader in industry and agriculture.
